Gwen Korenthal, age 84, beloved wife of the late Herbert Menches and the late Jack Korenthal, loving mother of Barry, and the late Laura Menches, cherished grandmother of Sarah Short and Benjamin Menches. Chapel services Mon July 24 10:00AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W Rand Rd, Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers donations in Gwen’s name may be made to City of Hope. I have several:

I stood up for Gwen and Herb’s marriage. I was 13 at the time. Gwen promised that if stopped biting my nails, she’d treat me to a manicure. I did stop and never bit them again.

Gwen was very close to my folks, Sam and Rochelle Flanzbaum, until their deaths.

Every Passover I make a pineapple kugel. The recipe is in an email Gwen sent to my mother. I found it after my Mom died and have made it ever since!
